That old Orpheum amp that I’ve previously discussed in the “Sightings” section of the site was still for sale on a recent visit to my favorite music store.

So I bagged it and will be featuring the old boy during the month of February as the Lafayette continues to undergo repair.

I have an Orpheum amp too! No one else ever heard of it. An amp tech got it back in working order by replacing tubes (one 6AU6WC, two 12AX7, two 6AQ5W aka 6005, and one 6AU6WC) and capacitors. I think it only has about 15 W output.
Mine doesn’t look like the 700 you showed – it was painted black. The control panel is different too. It has a tremelo circuit and three inputs – guitar accordian, and mic. Clean, blues sound.

congrats and welcome to the orpheum collector’s club; we’re up to two people now, lol. your amp sounds great, does it say anywhere what model number it is? if you can take photos or a video and send them in, i’ll post them.
I’ll take photos and put them up if I can figure out how to do that. By the way, mine came with the original speaker in it – a Utah. I’ll see if I can read anything – it’s awful dusty in there.
Hey all, I’ve got an Orpheum 700 as well and it looks exactly like the pictures someone included on the other page; same speaker, same transformers… I had to recap mine due to all the DC hum, sounds great unless I turn it up past 3 due the really old cracked speaker. I’ll upload some pictures later this week. I figured my speaker wasn’t original but it appears to be the same make and model as the one in the pictures I referred to; any idea where I might find a comparable 4 ohm replacement?
bill, try the folks at weber speakers http://www.tedweber.com/ they run a first class operation!
